Going to Austria & Germany

This year's family vacation, we had finalized Austria and Germany as our destination. The reason is simple, husband and I have been to many safe-to-go European countries before, but Austria.

As usual, husband as the vacation planner for our 9D8N itinerary, had to map out the route we would go as well as for other details, like hotel booking and car rental. When he faced the dilemma, I'll be his advisor. I did it based on my guts feelings, but husband sometimes seems very agreed with it.

Unlike last year, when husband got only a few days time to plan for our England trip, this year, he has 2 weeks time for that. Thanks to the light loading (due to poor economy or swine flu?), husband could plan the trip in more advance.

Cathay Pacific doesn't fly Austria directly, so we had to fly to the nearest port, i.e. Frankfurt. Our flight departed at 12 midnight. Great, it's our sleeping time.

As usual, we tried to make our baggage as light as possible. We brought minimum clothing and other necessities, all packed in 1-big and 1-small baggage. But the past experience had taught us to prepare some instant foods as well. So, we stuffed another small baggage with cup noddles, for that, the boys were so thrilled about.

Germany seems to have strict rules for the car passenger, age below 12. Depends on the age and height, children will need to be fasten in a car seat or car booster. My dear friend who live in Germany has confirmed this.

We could have rented the car seat from our car rental provider, but it will cost €8/day (HKD86/day). That means we have got to pay HKD770 for the whole trip. No way. End up, we've decided to take our own car booster along. And lucky we, our car booster was made in Germany, 100% comply with their rules and regulations. Just that, we had 1 more small baggage to carry.
